The challenge

Hold a whole story without anyone speaking. With no dialogue there is nowhere to hide a mistake: the image, the cut and the music carry all of it. And it runs to seventy shots, which is exactly where generative tools break — the dog stops being the same dog, the light jumps, the cart changes shape. The challenge was to reach five and a half minutes without the viewer ever doubting they were watching one animal.

Self-initiated. Termópilas doesn't publish client cases yet, so the brief for both of these came from the studio itself.

The process

  1. 01Tell it without dialogue, and draw it first

    The film is drawn out block by block before anything is generated: seven contact sheets that settle what each shot has to say when there is no line to explain it.

  2. 02The frame first, the motion after

    Every shot starts as a still in Nano Banana 2. Only once the framing is approved does it get motion, with Seedance 2.0 and 2.5 and Kling 3.0 via Higgsfield. The other way round, continuity is gone by the first cut.

  3. 03The sound is built, not recorded

    With no dialogue, the track is the lead. Music composed in Suno and sound design synthesised with FFmpeg, shot by shot. The only library sound is a dog yelp by TobiasKosmos, licensed CC BY 4.0.

  4. 04Edit and master without leaving the command line

    Cut, mix and final master in FFmpeg. Delivered at 1920×1080, 24 fps, −16.5 LUFS and −1.6 dBTP true peak: the levels a platform asks for, not the ones you get by default.

Baja California, 2089. A stray dog is hit by an autonomous car that scans her, drops a data card and drives away. An old man finds her on the road and builds her a cart out of scrap and bicycle wheels.

For Birdie, found on a road in Baja California, now running on her own wheels.

The result

The film is published and public: 5 minutes 33 seconds, 1080p, no dialogue. Submitted to the Astana AI Film Festival 2026 in two sections: Main Section — Thematic and Open Section — Open Competition.

Submitted is not selected: the festival has not announced results yet, and when it does it will be reported here whichever way it goes. The challenge didn't come from outside either: there was no client and no commission, the studio set it.
